With a bombastic introduction complete with a shower of confetti for those in the front of the audience, the Killers, led by singer/keyboard player Brandon Flowers, tore into "Sam's Town," the title track off their latest album.
The band was greeted with heartfelt cheers and applause by the crowd of 2,400, which also sang along with the second song, "Enterlude," prompting Flowers to let the audience take over the lyrics -- "We hope you enjoy your stay. It's good to have you with us."
"It's been too long, El Paso," Flowers said during the show's third song, "When You Were Young," the first single off of "Sam's Town."
The band first performed in the Sun City in July 2004.
Although the crowd was clearly at the show for the Killers, the night was almost stolen by show openers Louis XIV of San Diego. The band, which despite their western-influenced attire, brought a touch of classic and modern rock to the evening's festivities.
The band glided through songs such as "The Pledge Of Allegiance" and "Finding Out True Love Is Blind" as easily as lead singer Jason Hill glided around the stage with a microphone in one hand and a bottle of wine in the other.
Fans who arrived at the theater early were also treated to a set by alt-country band Romance Fantasy, which foreshadowed the night with a clean-sounding
set featuring songs such as show opener "Ordinary Guy" and "Black Heart."Press photographs were not allowed during the show.
