From Glastonbury 2005 online

One of The Killers' most popular hits to date has definitely been 'Smile like you mean it'. During Friday night's performance there was very little smiling from the band members at all, and for almost half of the set I was starting to question whether they were actually enjoying themselves.

Either The Killers take themselves far too seriously, or they just took a long time to settle in to their performance. Although pretty much all of the songs on their album Hot Fuss are enjoyable 1980's style anthems, their early singles, particularly 'Somebody told me' were not performed with the gusto expected from such a high profile band.

As soon as they started to play 'Glamorous Indie Rock and Roll', however, a small grin crept onto the lips of lead singer Brandon Flowers. Suddenly there was passion in the performance which was secured with a mind-blowing rendition of the fast paced 'Mr Brightside' and by then an almost wide smile.

The Killers are a fine looking bunch, with Flowers wearing a slick white jacket with black collar and eyeliner. There was definitely some acting taking place in the better half of the gig, with rigid dance moves, exaggerated despair in more emotive numbers, and more than likely a massive rush of adrenalin would the explosive energy in drummer Ronnie Vannucci's performance.

Unfortunately there were a few technical problems with the sound during this act, and since it was such a popular one, the people who were standing on the outskirts of the crowd probably heard little more than echo. But since the band made such a feisty come back, hopefully everyone was still able to enjoy the show. By the end I was certainly smiling, and yes I did mean it.
