Spaceman
I've been enjoying
some of the lighter aspects of this song. Aliens, abduction, the
unknown. I can see this song as paying homage to some of the
killer's idol in the past such as David bowie: space oddity and
Elton john: RocketMan. I feel a deeper connection to this song and
feels that it's about TRUTH. A Rough literal interpretation of this
it's about a person who gets abducted by aliens and is experimented
on but returns and no one believed him.
This song focuses on an extraordinary thing happening to an ordinary
man and no one believes him. This ordinary comes from a star crossed
world so he's aware that it is troubled. And when he gets abducted
the song says for the first time 'And that was the turning point
that was one lonely night'. This is talked about him realizing that
humans are not alone and aliens exist but he's away from earth and
he feels alone.
Then He Back home but He tries to tell people but no one cares and
or even cares to listen to him cause it wasn't televised. No the
main charater come to another realization that even though he tries
to tell everyone this HUGE discovery no one cares and now he feels
alone even in his home.
This brings the chorus in more light. With the dream maker,
starmaker, and spaceman all telling him separate things. The first
two are just saying ridiculous things similar to fortune tellers and
such but the Spaceman says everybody look down, it's all in your
mind. Which brings self-doubt to the main character. He then states
a blatant falsehood of the Nile running from east to west. This is
reaffirming that everyone could end up believing the definite
falsehood just through popular opinion. The main character then
accepts that he was not abducted just to fit back in with society
but he still hears though voices at night. Cue the OH OH Oh's!!!
So You need to ask yourself do You look down at your star crossed
world? Is it all in your Mind? Or do you risk it and did you go to
the skies and to the stars?
Needless to say AWESOME AWESOME song sorry if I got too deep I'd
appreciate any feedback comments criticism whatever the Killer Rock!
I think Spaceman is
about not appreciating life until it's put in danger. In the first
verse, he is abducted by aliens and being subjected to... well, I'm
not sure what. In the second verse, he's happy to be alive after
the ordeal and urging anyone considering ending their life to really
give it a good think, because although he made it, now he has to
deal with the voices he hears in his head and regrets not really
taking advantage of his life before.
People from another
galaxy. Simply showing how Brandon respects them but slightly
afraid. But the video seems to be a hootenanny of some sort which
makes me slightly confused.
I think it's about a
man who tries to kill himself (despite regretting it later), and has
a near death experience, which haunts him for the rest of his life.
"It started with a low light" - The first sight of the bright white
light people record as seeing when they have near death experiences.
"You know that I was hoping,
That I could leave this star-crossed world behind;" - The man wanted
to commit suicide.
"But when they cut me open,
I guess that changed my mind." - The near death experience changed
his perception of life and death.
"Have just flown too far from the floor this time" - In many near
death experiences, some people claim they have 'out of body'
experiences, where they seem to float about above their body.
"'cause they calling me by my name" - People describe voices as
calling their names towards a bright light.
"And the zipping white light beams" - The brilliant white light
people claim to see when they have near death experience is seen by
the person in the song.
"That was the turning point;
That was one lonely night" - People who have near death experiences
describe a 'turning point' of sorts, where they think they have a
choice whether to continue into the white light, or return to their
body (thereby choosing whether to live, or continue in on an
afterlife).
"The dream maker's going make you mad" - The 'dream maker' (God)
will make you go insane by making you think so much about this
experience.
"The spaceman says, Everybody look down
Its all in your mind" - A skeptical person, namely a spaceman,
blames the white light on psychological factors, and tells people to
look down at the Earth, and see it is just a planet; there is no
heaven or hell.
"Well now I'm back at home, and-
Im looking forward to this life I live;" - After leaving hospital,
the person has changed their lifestyle, like many people who claim
to have near death experiences.
"You know its gonna haunt me," - The experience was frightening, and
he dwells on it for a long time.
"You think you might cross over,
You're caught between the devil and the deep blue sea;
You better look it over,
Before you make that leap" - A few near death experiences involve a
'river of life', and 'darkness' being heaven and hell respectively,
and the person who had the experience was trapped between the two
sides, so the person singing is changing his life so he doesn't get
stuck in hell.
"but I hear those voices at night sometimes they justify my claim,"
- He still hears the voices he heard during the experience in his
dreams, and they prove that the experience did happen, despite
people saying it didn't.
"and the public don't dwell on my transmission
cause it wasn't televised" - The media do not believe him very
much, and don't care, so it wasn't reported in the media.
I don't believe in near death experiences having a holy or religious
meaning, and I do believe they're psychological, but I ask you to
consider this idea.
dont no much about
this exept it was written in the jungle on one of brandons holidays.
